1971 - Founded as Southern Strip Steel in Eminence, KY.
1977 - Southern Strip Steel acquires Miller Steel in Kokomo, Indiana.
1979 - Kokomo operations relocated to Greenfield facility in Peru, Indiana.
1984 - Southern Strip Steel enters the state of Michigan, establishing a facility in Madison Heights.
1985 - Southern Strip Steel successfully completes IPO and becomes Steel Technologies.
1986 - Mi-Tech Steel, a Steel Tech/Mitsui & Co. partnership, is founded.
1987 - Mi-Tech Murfreesboro, TN facility opened.
1987 - Portage, IN facility opened.
1989 - Mi-Tech Greensburg, IN facility opened.
1991 - Canton, MI facility opened.
1994 - Steel Tech acquires 80% in Aceros Y Maquilas TYCOME, SA de CV. in Monterrey, Mexico.
1995 - Ghent, KY facility opened.
1997 - Completes acquisition of Atlantic Coil Processing in Clinton, NC.
1997 - Mi-Tech Decatur, AL facility opens.
1998 - Completes acquisition of Roberts Steel in Cleveland, OH.
1999 - Berkeley, SC facility opened.
2000 - Matamoros, Mexico facility opened.
2003 - Purchase assets of Cold Metal Products in Ottawa, OH.
2003 - Mi-Tech Madison, MS facility opened.
2006 - Completes acquisition of Kasle Steel Corporation.
2007 - Juarez, Mexico facility opened.
2007 - Completes acquisition of MASCI in Cambridge, Ontario.
2007 - Merged with Mitsui & Co (U.S.A.), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co, Ltd.
2008 - Woodstock, Ontario facility opened.
2008 - Merged Mi-Tech Steel with Steel Technologies.
2008 - Completed integration of Steel Technologies and MSI (Mitsui Steel, Inc.).
2010 - Steel Technologies' parent company, Mitsui & Company (USA) Inc., and Nucor Corporation form a joint venture named "NuMit", which now owns 100% of Steel Technologies.
2011 - Completes acquisition of NuPro - Crawfordsville, IN.
2011 - Steel Technologies breaks ground on new Greenfield site in Pesqueria, Mexico
